Facilities, food and accommodation - Schools & Youth Groups

Facilities

Within the house and grounds of our 16-acre estate we have all the necessary facilities to host your residential trip with the peace of mind of a safe and secure private site.

Entrance Hall

The grand entrance hall boasts a beautiful, sweeping staircase and original flagstone floor, creating an unforgettable first impression and introduction to the Georgian grandeur.

Morgan Room

This elegant reception room is invaluable to our groups as both a meeting and activity space. The Morgan Room boasts original wooden shutters over the full length, south facing windows and original Georgian mouldings and pillars.

Lucas Library

The Lucas library is one of the most unique features of the house. This oval room features fully integrated, original bookcases of mahogany and walnut, complete with secret bookcase doorway through to the Banqueting Hall. The large bay windows face out to a beautiful view of the lawn and surrounding woodland. On arrival the groups will be shown this room on their tour which helps to excite them about the history of the house but after that this is a teachers-only space. A sophisticated, quiet sanctuary away from the excitement is a must have for the survival of any group leader.

The Banqueting Hall

This grand hall features full length sash windows on two sides allowing for views over the lawn and wonderful natural lighting. This space can seat up to 80 guests for dining on our locally made, bespoke banqueting tables. It is easy to see why this space is our most popular for wedding ceremonies.

McCarthy's Bar

Originally used as a gentleman's retirement room, McCarthy's bar has all the grandeur of Georgian gentry with a splash of rustic, woodland flair. This space has an abundance of character and the perfect atmosphere for those quieter, wind-down evening sessions. Although it is important to mention that the bar is not stocked with any alcohol when used for school and youth group visits, you may be interested to hear that teachers can still order a drink or two for the library if they choose.

The Tipis (or tepees - depending on your preference!)

Our beautiful event tipis are a beautiful addition to our lawn with a unique beauty perfect that's hard to resist. Typically, the tipis aren't used for youth and school groups but we do open them up for the evening session if the weather has been unkind for your stay. A little added treat to compensate for the Welsh weather. The wooden structure of the interior, dressed in fairy lights and bunting, make for a truly magical space and unforgettable experience.

The Grounds

The extensive and beautiful grounds are home to our host of activities from tree climbing to archery. In the middle of the woodland is the ruins of the old walled garden, now host to our wildness campfire spot. Check out our activities page for a full list of what's on offer!

Our woodland is home to many animals, birds and insects from weasels to owls, newts to badgers, and this incredible menagerie is a real asset to us here at Carreg Adventure.

Our captivating woodland allows us give children the sense and benefits of the wildness with the security and safety of the private site.

There is also a cave and original ice house within our private woodland and the future plans for the site include making this area an accessible, spectacular event space.

Other Facilities

There is ample parking on site for your coach and any accompanying cars. There is also a gift shop on site selling confectionary, toys and gifts in keeping with our traditional, natural image. Internet access is available in the Entrance Hall, Library and Morgan Room but is limited. Passwords for access will not be given to groups only group leaders. There is also a kitchenette with tea and coffee facilities, small fridge and microwave for teachers use.

Food

We have designed our menu with the following key priorities:

  • Nutritional Value
  • Great taste
  • Something for everyone

We know from experience that many, many young people have restricted diets and tastes and it is important to us that there is something for everyone without contradicting our healthy eating policy. One of the ways we do this is to separate out the components of the meal for a build-your-own style menu giving young people the control over what they have and, by extension, the confidence to try something new.

We can cater for most specific dietary requirements and our chef is always happy to speak to the parents of any child with complex dietary needs to ensure that they have a menu to suit.

We hold a 5-star food hygiene certificate from Swansea County Council.

Accommodation and Bathroom Facilities

As a 4-star bunk house, our shared accommodation is a little different to what you might expect. Our philosophy of imagination and natural beauty has carried though in our design of our recently updated accommodation with a woodland flavour to every room. There is ample storage space for luggage and clothes and our beds have been commissioned by us to ensure a comfortable bunk house experience.
